Sophie and I have a fun little tradition going when it comes to our vacation. Sophie brings a long, flowy summerdress, and I bring a camera. And then we look for a landscape that complements the colours of the dress. When we find it, we do a photoshoot. The big idea? To shoot beauty in beauty: the never-ending beauty of the love of my life in the beauty of these amazing landscapes. And if course: to have fun photo’s to remember our (amazing) holidays by!
2024 — Andalucia (Spain) & Rhodes (Greece)
Because our holiday in 2023 took us to a fairly cold place, this year we opted to go to a very warm place. In fact, we went to two very warm places. We first toured Andalucia, which was amazing. On this blog there are various posts regarding that trip.
Andalucia is beautiful. I made so many beautiful images of Sophie that could have gone with this post. Here are a few. But in the end, it is picture at the top of this post that best captured the Andalucian landscape. You are seeing the mountains of Sierra Nevada, with a typical Spanish village (Torvizcon) all consisting of white houses.
And then we flew to Rhodos where we spent a week at a resort. My work has taken me to Greece a number of times already, but Sophie had never been. We visited Lindos, a small fishing village, which has its own acropolis. That is where I took this photo.
2023 — Norway
Norway was beyond beautiful. It utterly surpassed our expectations. We did a number of photoshoots there. Here are two of our favourite photo’s.
Why are there two photo’s? We went to Norway to see the Fjords. To be sure, the Fjords are stunning. But what really blew us away even more were the highlands between the Fjords. So we have a picture of each.
2022 — Tuscany (Italy)
This is easily one of our favourite holiday destinations. We almost forgot to do our photoshoot. Here is the favorite image of this year.
2021 — Netherlands
COVID19 meant that international travel was really not an option. Instead we toured The Netherlands, visiting places we had never seen, like the Wadden islands, Twente, and Limburg. On August 3rd (our 30th anniversary) we visited this church yard where we first met each other!
2020 — The French Alps
Due to Corona restrictions international travel was difficult. Fortunately two very good friends of our who live in the French Alps invited us to come stay with them. It was one of those this is fun, but is it really a holiday, but is it really a holiday? times, and so we forgot to bring a (new) dress. The second picture shows the landscape better…
2019 — Scotland and Cornwall
This year Sophie brought two dresses. And we did 4 different shoots. This is getting out of hand… but it’s so much fun. Since we had two dresses and did four shoots, I thought I’d show you some of the other ‘best photo’s of this year. You might recognise the viaduct that was the subject of this post.
2018 — Nova Scotia & newfoundland (Canada)
2017 — Cornwall (United Kingdom)
Sophie grew up in Cornwall. I have visited Cornwall many times, but had never gone far beyond her home. We took this summer to really explore the coastal paths, the moors, and the many lovely beaches and fishing villages. This photo was taken on Bodmin Moor.
2016 — British Columbia (Canada)
One of the years we didn’t bring a summerdress, or didn’t put it on, or forgot… Still a lovely pic of a lovely woman in an amazing place on an amazing holiday!
2014 — austria & Italy
This was our first picture. We are on the Italian side of the Mont Blanc, at (if I remember correctly) 2700 meters. You better believe it is really cold, and Sophie wearing heavy hiking shoes underneath the dress. But it was here we decided we should do this every year!
Very fine work, Rogier!
